If you're looking for an authentic Brooklyn sandwich experience, make the trip to Defonte's Sandwich Shop. The sandwiches are absolutely massive, loaded with fresh ingredients, and packed with flavor. Every bite tastes like a piece of old-school New York. The fried eggplant and hot salad are incredible, and it's easy to see why this place has been a neighborhood institution for generations. The staff is friendly, the service is fast, and the no-frills atmosphere just adds to the charm. Whether you're a local or visiting from out of town, this is the kind of place you'll be thinking about long after the sandwich is gone. One of the best sandwiches I've ever had. We'll definitely be back!

The Red Hook Special has a great balance of meat and vegetables. As a result the lettuce and tomato work really well with the chicken cutlet and the turkey. That's two crunchy and two soft textures, well done. They don't put too much mayo either. The seeded bread is crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. A "1/2 sandwich" can feed two and is often cut in half for that reason. Lovely spot, highly recommend, $20 for that sandwich is the right price and is an NYC steal. Remember, cash only!!!!

I got the red hook special which was pretty good. The ingredients were amazing the bread lettuce etc were amazing. The chicken cutlet was just too thick should have been thinner.

Was very excited to try Defonte’s and was not disappointed. Big selection of sandwiches and friendly service. The sandos were immense and very filling. Roast pork special and sopressata were happily devoured :)

I’ve been coming to Defonte’s for almost twenty years. I’ve tried a lot of their sandwiches, but the Nicky Special is still the one I go back to the most. Ham, provolone, salami, ham capicola, fried eggplant, hot salad, mushrooms, lettuce and tomato — everything fits together nicely and it’s always satisfying. It’s a solid sandwich shop. Nothing fancy, just dependable and good. The reason it’s not five stars for me is simply that I’ve had a few sandwiches elsewhere that impressed me a bit more, but Defonte’s is still a place I keep returning to. If you’re not sure what to order, go with the Nicky Special. It’s been my favorite here for a long time.
