Brooklyn, New York
Getting around Brooklyn
Use the subway, buses, ferries, bikes, and neighborhood walks to explore Brooklyn without making every trip a car trip.

Subway first, but check the route
Many subway lines connect Brooklyn with Manhattan, but travel between Brooklyn neighborhoods may require a transfer or bus. Check live MTA information, especially at night and on weekends.
- Use OMNY contactless payment where supported; check current MTA fares and fare rules.
- Confirm the train's direction and whether it runs local or express.
- Check station accessibility and elevator status for the actual entrances you need.
Buses fill the gaps
Buses are often useful for trips that subway lines do not connect directly. Check the current route and stop location, and allow extra time for traffic.
Ferries, bikes, and walking
NYC Ferry can be useful for waterfront destinations and uses a separate ticketing system from the subway. Citi Bike and walking work well for shorter trips; follow bike-lane rules and keep pedestrian paths clear.
Driving and parking
Street parking can be difficult. Read every sign for meter rules, alternate-side restrictions, and other limits. Never assume a residential block offers unrestricted parking.
