This place is a hellscape. I feel like I just went on an epic quest. I walked into Tarzian looking for a really simple product -- an over-the-door garment hook (for hanging coats/hats). According to their website, they have over 5 different kinds in stock. I looked through the store once. Then I asked the woman behind the checkout counter. She told me to go to the other side of the store and ask the men in the hardware department. I did. They said "If we have them, it'd be on X shelf." I told them I didn't see them, pointed to their website page, where -- again -- FIVE DIFFERENT VERSIONS OF THIS PRODUCT. The guy shrugged. "Maybe we don't have them." And then he started looking at his phone. 5 staff members were in the store. None of them could help me, or seemed to know what they were doing, at all. It's like that every time I've gone in, but I can usually find the product myself. It's too bad. I like supporting a small business -- but not when it sucks, and the staff is rude. Skip this place.

Solid local hardware store. Staff knows their stuff and gets what you need fast, Good selection, fair prices. Way easier than dealing with big chains.

Entitled, condescending staff that's absolutely useless when it comes to plumbing. I've had nothing but frustrating experiences at this store whenever I've had to go in there for plumbing supplies. I have a building that I service across the street and, as anyone local knows, parking is impossible. Once you're in a spot, you're there until the job is done. I literally dread having to go in there and go through the rigamorale of asking for a specific plumbing part from a clerk who knows nothing about plumbing and, quite overtly, displays annoyance at having to do their job. Then, after the mile and a half walk to the register, you can expect the same hospitality from whomever is assigned to checkout before you pay exorbitantly for a part you had to locate yourself. I'm there so sparingly that I really just thought my bad experiences there trying to procure plumbing parts were just a series of isolated incidents. After another trip there today, the preponderance of empirical evidence points to it just being a lousy culture. But, given the parking situation in that neighborhood, guess I'll have to resign myself to lousy service and ridiculous prices. And this is coming from someone that lives in Midtown East/ Murray Hill.
